Cygnet West’s Community Giving Program

On Wednesday 24 November 2021, as part of our Company’s Community Giving Program, the Commercial Management Division were fortunate enough to volunteer at Parkerville Children and Youth Care (Parkerville CYC).

Parkerville CYC advocate for and provide specialist care and services to those most vulnerable in the WA community, including children, young people and families who have experienced trauma from abuse. Parkerville CYC began in 1903 as an orphanage and continues to deliver services to families and youth across Western Australia. Some of the services that Parkerville CYC offer are:

  • Foster Care
  • Youth Services
  • Therapeutic Family Services
  • Children Advocacy Centres
  • Family Support Services
  • Therapeutic Care Program

Parkerville Children and Youth Care offer different volunteer opportunities, however the Commercial Management Division slipped on gardening gloves, slopped on sunscreen and slapped on hats to clear firebreaks around the homes.

The day was exceptionally warm, and we managed to shoo away some big flies, escape bull ant bites and thankfully did not come across any snakes. We ate lunch with some of the teens that work in the grounds and whilst we were enjoying our BBQ lunch, we had more appreciation for the fact that we work in an air-conditioned office. That said, this was a great opportunity for our Team and as we all piled in our cars at the end of the day, with dirt-streaked faces and weary bodies, we were very proud of the accomplishments of the day and that we were able to give back to an organisation that has helped our community for so many years.
