Wellard Square Unveils Vibrant Environmental Mural by Amok Island
Cygnet West, in collaboration with the City of Kwinana, is proud to announce the completion of a striking new mural at Wellard Square Shopping Centre, transforming a 27-metre stretch of wall into a vibrant celebration of Western Australia’s native wildlife.

Created by renowned Fremantle muralist Amok Island, the artwork titled Spoonbills of Wellard brings colour, creativity, and environmental awareness to the heart of the centre. The mural features long-legged spoonbills, encouraging visitors to reconnect with nature and appreciate the beauty of local ecosystems.
To mark the launch, Wellard Square will host a wildlife-themed community event on Saturday, 31 August 2025 from 10am to 2pm, featuring:
- Live wildlife displays and animal handling experiences by West Oz Wildlife
- Educational talks from Birds of Prey WA
- Food trucks, live music, and family-friendly games
The mural has already received enthusiastic feedback from the local community. “People complained about all the grey walls; they’re so happy to now be able to look at some colour,” said Amok Island.
Andrea Szczucki, Marketing Manager at Wellard Square, shared:
“Our collaboration with the City of Kwinana has brought a vibrant, meaningful artwork to life that not only reflects our natural environment but also activates an underutilised space in the car park, turning it into a visual landmark for Wellard.”
This initiative aligns with Cygnet West’s commitment to placemaking and community engagement, using art and culture to activate commercial spaces and enhance visitor experience.
